En su formaci\u00f3n como jesuita obtuvo la licenciatura en Filosof\u00eda y la maestr\u00eda en Ciencias Pol\u00edticas en la Universidad Javeriana; en este mismo claustro hizo sus estudios de Teolog\u00eda, y es doctor en Teolog\u00eda Moral por la Universidad Gregoriana, de Roma. Desde 1981, cuando culmin\u00f3 sus estudios doctorales, se vincul\u00f3 a la Javeriana, donde ha trabajado ininterrumpidamente durante 40 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>Durante muchos a\u00f1os estuvo al frente de las c\u00e1tedras de Moral Sexual y de Bio\u00e9tica, siendo reconocido como Profesor Titular de la Universidad. Como resultado de su actividad acad\u00e9mica y pastoral ha publicado 8 libros y numerosos art\u00edculos. Fue Decano del Medio Universitario en las Facultades de Teolog\u00eda y Medicina, y Vicerrector Acad\u00e9mico en Bogot\u00e1 y en Cali; ocupa el cargo de Rector de la Seccional cuando es nombrado Rector de la Sede Central. Desde el 28 de febrero de 2014 es rector de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. En el periodo comprendido entre octubre de 2014 y octubre de 2016 fue presidente de la Asociaci\u00f3n Colombiana de Universidades ASCUN.
